Twitter Check List

Twitter can be confusing at first. It has a bit of a learning curve. To help you out, here is a simple check list of what I have learned and found to work.

1. Optimize your bio. You are allowed 160 characters. Use key words that will make it easy for other writers, and readers of your genre, to find you. For example, my bio says “Dark fantasy author. 20, lover of tea and epic stories. Never To Live is my first novel.” Click to Tweet

2. Create lists to organize people you follow. This makes it easier to look up tweets you don’t want to miss. I suggest making lists like Favorite Writers, Writers To Follow, Inspiration, Publishers, and Tips. Click to Tweet

4. Tweet good content. No one wants to know what you had for lunch every single day. Post inspirational quotes, blog posts, funny/interesting photos, and anything else worthy and relevant. Click to Tweet

5. To grow your connections, follow people. Give them 2 days to a week to follow you back. If they don’t you can always unfollow them. Click to Tweet

6. Use your “favorite” as a like button. Click to Tweet

7. Retweet great content that others post and give them due credit. This will help bring you to their attention. Click to Tweet

8. Tweet when a lot of people are online. Highest traffic is usually between 1-4 pm. Click to Tweet

9. Be interesting, consistent, and relevant. Click to Tweet

10. Talk to people. Twitter is about engaging with others. Click to Tweet

11. Use hashtags! But be sparing. I recommend no more than 2, maybe 3, per tweet. Click to Tweet

Happy tweeting!
