My publisher gave me the option of hiring a professional to create the map for my book, or take the first shot at it myself. Now, I’m one of those ‘software challenged’ people. I have to have step-by-step directions to figure anything out and I get confused easily. But making a map? That was something I couldn’t pass up.
I bought Campaign Cartographer 3, the program my publisher suggested I use. I knew I would never be able to figure it out on my own, so I did some research. I ended up watching all of Joe Sweeney’s CC3 tutorials on Youtube. His tutorials were easy to understand. I was able to figure out the basics of CC3 and use the program without too much difficulty. That was a great feat for me. :)
My map ended up looking pretty decent, if I do say so myself. And it’s actually being used in my book. This draft isn’t the one that will be seen in the novel; the text is being switched to a different format in Photoshop. We couldn’t get it to look exactly how we wanted it to in CC3.
